About Chapel Hill Kindergarten
We have a wonderful team of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers who love our tamariki. All of our teaching staff are fully qualified, trained in first aid and attend regular professional development in order to keep up to date with best teaching practice.
We value holistic development which enables children to reach their full potential emotionally, physically, spiritually and intellectually. By providing a nurturing, safe environment children feel free to explore the world around them. We are a community focused kindergarten and as such we believe that our community involvement and service is important in establishing good relationships with our families/whānau.
We are licensed for forty children. Two sessions are held each day, one in the morning from 8.30-12:15pm and another in the afternoon from 1:15-3:45pm. There is also opportunity to stay over the lunch period.
Chapel Hill Kindergarten is a Christian Early Childhood Centre that provides a stimulating holistic programme, encouraging an appreciation and understanding of biblical values.
Our programme is based on 'Te Whāriki', New Zealand's Early Childhood curriculum and reflects the Christian ethos of our centre.
We believe that each child is unique and reflects the image of God. We provide an environment where children feel safe and confident to explore the world around them, creating a love for learning and a wonder of life.
We aim to empower children to learn through building positive, reciprocal relationships within their worlds.
We acknowledge the dual cultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand and support children, families and teachers to become increasingly aware of our culturally diverse community. As we live in a multi-cultural society, we believe in guiding and facilitating children's learning in an inclusive environment.
This māori whakatauki captures the heart of our learning community:
With your contribution, and my contribution, we will thrive.
Our Teaching Team
Centre Manager/Teacher (Qualified) - Anne-Marie Smith
My name is Anne-Marie Smith and I am the Centre Manager here at Chapel Hill Kindergarten. I enjoy being able to lead a dynamic team of competent and dedicated teaching professionals to best meet the needs of our children and their families. I believe each child is unique with their own gifts and abilities, and it is a privilege to work in partnership with parents to help our children reach their full potential.
I am married with three adult children. As a family we are committed Christians and Owen and I worship at the Salvation Army.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, coffee with friends, going to the beach, quilting, scrapbooking, reading and overseas travel.
Supervisor/Teacher (Qualified) - Tracy Harris
Kia ora, my name is Tracy Harris and I have been teaching at Chapel Hill Kindergarten since I finished my teaching degree from Waikato University in November 2006. I love working here, encouraging and inspiring children to reach their potential and to explore and discover new concepts, as well as the world around them. Building relationship with the children and their families is a big priority here and I love being a part of the amazing community that Chapel Hill Kindergarten has become.
I am married to Clint (who is part of our teaching team) and we have three children; Levi, Josiah and Eden - they certainly help keep us busy! We attend Horsham Downs Community Church and are involved in different areas there.
In my spare time I love to catch up with family and friends; visit a beach somewhere; spend time reading a great book or playing Sudoku; and of course relaxing in front of a good movie!
Teacher (Qualified) - Clint Harris
Kia ora koutou katoa (hi everyone), my name is Clint and I have been a part of the Chapel Hill teaching team for 5 years. Most of my working life has been spent working with teenagers and I have a Diploma in Youth Work, so working with children was a definite career change. I get to work with my amazing wife Tracy who also works here at Chapel Hill and who was the inspiration for me pursuing a career in early childhood. We have three grown up children who provide us with lots of fun and some of life's greater challenges as parents.
I can say with 'hand on heart' that I love being part of a team of teachers who are passionate about caring for and providing quality learning for the children who are a part of our centres' life.
In my spare time - I dabble in most sports and play none of them with any proficiency. I love going to the movies, cooking, eating food (I make a mean steak dinner) and I've grown a fondness for a good red wine. Both Tracy and I also attend Horsham Downs Community Church where we contribute to the life of our church whānau. Please say 'hi' whenever you pop in to kindergarten - I'm actually quite friendly!
Teacher (Qualified) - Joanne Rive
Kia ora, my name is Joanne Rive. I have been part of the team at Chapel Hill Kindergarten since May 2014. It is a great community to be a part of, and I enjoy building relationships with the children and families that are part of this kindergarten. I have a passion to help children learn and discover, enabling them to become competent and confident learners. I consider it a privilege to be a part of each child's learning journey.
I have completed 3 teaching diplomas in Montessori: Infant, Toddler and Pre Primary. I undertook these in the early 1990's in London, and have taught in Montessori Preschools since then. In 2013, I completed my Degree in Early Childhood Education, through the Open Polytechnic. I began teaching at Chapel Hill Kindergarten in 2014.
I am married to Jason, and we have 2 children. They both attend Rototuna High School. My family attends the Salvation Army, and we are all involved in various activities there.
Being a Mum takes up a lot of my time...however when I do have spare time I love to cook, garden, read a good book, and spend time with friends and family.
Teacher (Qualified) - Travis Franklin
Hi my name is Travis Franklin and it is great to be part of the team at Chapel Hill Kindergarten. I started working here in 2015 and I love the fact that the team of teachers here are so supportive and genuinely want the best for each other and the children.
My passion as a teacher is to create an environment where the children feel safe and have a sense of 'home' when they come through those doors. When children feel comfortable where they are and what they are doing they are more likely to contribute and learn.
Music is also a big part of my life. I regularly play piano at Horsham Downs Church and love using this tool in my teaching. I also love playing sport such as touch rugby and cricket, watching movies and finding moments to relax and do nothing!!
I have been married to Jodie for 13 years and have 2 children, Liam - nearly 5 and Albie - 2.
